Around 30 pct of deaths in Mongolia preventable: study

ULAN BATOR, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) — A study released by Mongolia’s Center for Health Development on Tuesday reveals that approximately 30 percent of all deaths registered in Mongolia are preventable.
The research, which covered 136,718 deaths among individuals under the age of 75 from 2015 to 2022, found that 29.6 percent of these deaths were preventable.
During the period, the national average of preventable deaths peaked in 2015 at 175 per 100,000 population and reached its lowest point in 2020 at 137.6 per 100,000 population, according to the center.
The study also highlights that over 94 percent of preventable deaths are attributed to non-communicable diseases. The leading causes include cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, prenatal disease, pneumonia, and upper and lower respiratory tract diseases, including tuberculosis.
Additionally, the study indicates that two-thirds of preventable deaths occur among men aged 35-64, and three-fifths were among residents of the national capital Ulan Bator, which houses about half of Mongolia’s population of 3.5 million. ■
